Assigning roles
Assign usage roles to define which areas and responsibilities a person or group will have in the Console.
When to use this
- Use it when someone needs a new responsibility in Infinite Data.
- Use it when setting up groups for querying, governance, auditing, or administration.
- Use it in access reviews.
Before you start
- Understand the person's or group's function.
- Keep Console access separate from data access.
- Get approval from the person responsible when the role is sensitive.
Step by step
- Open Users, Groups, and Profiles.
- Select the user or group.
- Open the roles area.
- Add only the roles needed.
- Remove roles that no longer match the function.
- Review the summary and save.
What happens next
- The menu and the available actions reflect the assigned roles.
- The change is recorded in the audit trail.
- Data access still depends on specific data rules.
Common errors
- Confusing a usage role with granting a table.
- Assigning an administrative role to settle a querying request.
- Keeping old roles after a change of function.
Good practice
- Use roles per group when the responsibility is shared.
- Review higher-impact roles more often.
- Give understandable names and descriptions to the groups that receive roles.
