Running SQL queries

Run SQL queries in Infinite Data in a controlled way, respecting the access, masks, and filters set by governance.

When to use this​

  • Use it when you need to answer a business question with data.
  • Use it after finding the right table in the catalog or Explorer.
  • Use it when you want to validate an access rule from the user's point of view.

Before you start​

  • Confirm the table appears for you in the Explorer.
  • Understand which columns your analysis needs.
  • If the query involves sensitive data, confirm the purpose of the use.

Step by step​

  1. Open QueryMesh Explorer.
  2. Select the table or build the query in the editor.
  3. Prefer selecting only the columns you need.
  4. Add filters to reduce the volume queried.
  5. Run a preview before the full query.
  6. Review the results and adjust the query if needed.
  7. Save the script when it represents recurring work.

What happens next​

  • The result shown respects your effective access.
  • Protected columns may appear masked, according to the data rule.
  • The run is recorded for history, auditing, and future investigation.

Common errors​

  • An access denied message: ask for the data rule to be reviewed.
  • Empty result: check the filters, the period, and the table's availability.
  • Syntax error: review column names, commas, filters, and ordering.

Good practice​

  • Avoid selecting every column when you only need a few.
  • Include limits and filters during initial exploration.
  • Document the script's purpose in its name, or in the description your team agreed on.
