Automate a weekly report

Goal: let Imaginne generate a report every week without you having to ask for it manually. You create a Routine in the Desktop app, schedule it to run weekly, get a notification when it completes, and find the artifacts in the history.

Routines run while the Desktop app is open. They are global to your user — they don't depend on a specific project. For a feature overview, see Routines.

Prerequisites​

  • The Desktop app, signed in (see the Quickstart).
  • The Desktop app open at the scheduled time (the scheduler is local).

Step by step​

1. Open the Routines drawer​

In the Desktop app's navigation bar, open the Routines drawer and click + New routine.

2. Define what the routine does​

Fill in the main fields:

  • Title — a clear name, e.g., "Weekly sales report".
  • Prompt — exactly what you'd ask in the chat. Be specific about the source and the format: 
    Generate the weekly sales report. Use the data in @sales.csv,
    produce an .xlsx with a summary, totals by region, and a monthly chart,
    and write a paragraph of highlights at the top.

3. Schedule (weekly)​

Set up the recurrence:

  • Schedule kind — select weekly.
  • Weekday — the day of the week (e.g., Monday).
  • At HH:MM — the time (e.g., 08:00).
  • Timezone — confirm your time zone.
Other schedule kinds

Besides weekly, there are once, daily, monthly, interval (ISO-8601, e.g., PT2H), and weekdays. Pick the one that fits your report.

4. Run mode and notifications​

  • Run mode — local_plain (normal) or local_protected (protected skills). For an ordinary report, use local_plain.
  • Notify — turn on on complete to be alerted when the report is ready, and on failure to know if something went wrong. If the prompt might require confirmation, consider ask_user.
  • If you like, adjust retries, max runtime, and artifact retain (how long the artifacts are kept).

5. Enable and test​

  1. Leave Enabled on and save.
  2. Click Run now once to validate the result without waiting for the scheduled time.
  3. Check the completion notification and the generated artifact.

Result​

At the scheduled time (with the Desktop app open), the routine runs on its own, generates the report, and fires the notification. Each run is recorded in the routine's history, along with the artifacts it produced — open them straight from there. You can Pause, Run now, or Delete the routine at any time.

Routines vs. Saved Prompts​

Don't confuse the two features:

Use Saved Prompts for reusable prompts you trigger on the spot; use Routines for what needs to run on its own at set times.
