Environment variables

This page lists only the client-side environment variables: the imaginne binary (TUI), voice, and the installer. Server and infrastructure variables are not documented here.

Client, not server

All the variables below affect an app on your machine. Set them in your shell before starting the TUI, or pass them to the install command.

TUI (the imaginne binary)

Variable	Effect	Default
IMAGINNE_DANGEROUS_BYPASS	Flags the dangerous_bypass execution mode at startup. Without it (or without the --dangerous-bypass flag), the request is downgraded to auto.	disabled
IMAGINNE_DEBUG	Enables debug logs.	disabled
IMAGINNE_LEGACY	Turns on legacy behaviors.	disabled
IMAGINNE_TUI_LOCAL_STORE	off turns off the local persistence of sessions (useful on shared machines).	on
IMAGINNE_GLOBAL_SKILLS_DIR	Overrides the global skills directory (default ~/.imaginne/skills/).	~/.imaginne/skills/

Voice

The voice variables (IMAGINNE_VOICE_*) tune speech→text in the TUI and on Desktop. Voice depends on a build compiled with the voice tag (today, in the TUI, only the darwin-arm64 release) and on credentials enabled by the organization. See Voice.

Variable	Effect
IMAGINNE_VOICE_*	Configure voice capture/transcription parameters (the prefix of the voice variable family).

Installer (install.sh)

Passed when running the TUI install script. See Install the TUI.

IMAGINNE_CHANNEL	The channel to install (imaginne PROD or imaginne-dev DEV).	imaginne

IMAGINNE_SKIP_PATH_SETUP	1 does not modify the PATH during the install.	disabled
